Compelling

He had found it on the sidewalk and he couldn't help but take a picture of it. He thought, “This'll be nice, one of those art-house type deals where there's some hidden meaning you gotta grasp at.”

Yeah, like the unfinished shoveling that society compels you to finish, but you're compelled by forces unknown to leave it be and do whatever. He took a picture then snatched up the paper, put in his pocket, and went inside.

It lay crumpled there until, one day, when his mom was doing the laundry, she found it. She turned it around and, written on the back in a child's pencil scrawl, were the words “an irresistible urge to do something”. She crumpled up the paper and threw it away, as moms are wont to do.
